| Operation School Bell® (OSB) |
| Operation School Bell began nearly fifty years ago as a one-woman effort by Ruth Ann Montgomery to provide clothing to disadvantaged children; it is now the signature national philanthropic program for Assistance League. Wichita’s OSB recently reached a milestone of having provided clothing to 50,000 children in our public school system. USD 259 school social workers submit clothing requests for children.
These students receive new coats, hats, gloves, jeans/pants, shirts, (or school uniforms), and undergarments. Vouchers for new shoes are issued; toiletry kits and backpacks are supplied as needed. OSB has clothed 3,325 students during the 2007-2008 school year at a cost of over $110,000. |
